The name goes back to Henry Foxall, a mayor of Georgetown whose cannon foundry stood on Foundry Branch, in what is now Glover-Archbold Park, and supplied guns for the War of 1812. An early sign misspelled his name, and "Foxhall" stuck. In the mid-1920s, Harry Boss of Boss & Phelps, the same firm that later built Colony Hill, started building houses here modeled on the English town of Tewkesbury. About 150 were finished by the end of 1927, and today there are more than 300. The Foxhall Village Historic District joined the National Register in November 2007.
