Manor Park grew up across from Stott's Station, a stop on the B&O Railroad's Metropolitan Branch, and a 1905 ad sold it as a mile closer to the city than Takoma Park. Few houses went up before the 1920s, when builders including Harry Wardman got started, and it wasn't linked by road to Takoma until 4th and 5th Streets were extended in 1926. Most of the homes you see today were designed and built in the late 1930s by architect George Santmyers. Coolidge High School opened in 1940 on land that was once a Takoma dairy farm, and after 1958 Manor Park neighbors joined Neighbors, Inc. to keep the area stable and integrated. Residents also helped stop a planned freeway through the neighborhood.
