In the 1960s many of those families moved to the suburbs, and by the early 1980s Riggs Park had become a solidly middle-class Black neighborhood. Residents also joined the fight against the planned North Central Freeway in the late 1960s, and the Green Line was later built instead. The rebuilt Lamond-Riggs/Lillian J. Huff Library opened in 2022.
